Riding Attire - For a safe and fun ride
Helmets- All students are required to wear SEI approved helmets regardless of age when riding horses. Joyful Noise Riding Academy provides helmets for students that do not have their own. After a month of lessons, students are required to purchase their own helmet. Having your own helmet ensures a proper fit.
Pants- Students must wear long pants that cover all skin on their legs when riding. No shorts, skirts, or dresses allowed. Pants may be jeans, stretchy cotton pants, riding tights, riding breeches, or jodhpurs. Please avoid baggy pants and jersey workout material pants. Students wearing inappropriate clothing will have an unmounted lesson instead of riding.
Shirts- Students need shirts long enough to be able to cover their stomach even when doing exercises that require them to lift their hands above their heads. Shirts, coats, vests, and sweatshirts should not be so long that they get caught on the saddle. No tube tops or string tanks. Extra long or shorter shirts will need to be tucked in.
Footwear- Students are required to wear English riding boots. We have some boots available for new students to wear. Please wear boots or tennis shoes in case we do not have a size that fits available. After a month of lessons, students are required to purchase their own short English riding boots, also known as paddock boots.
Gloves- Riding gloves are great to have for riding, although not required. They provide grip for the reins. In the winter you may use any glove that provides grip on the reins.
Half Chaps- Half chaps are very beneficial for students riding English. If students have short boots sometimes the stirrup leathers can pinch their lower leg. Half chaps cover the student’s leg from the knee down. Once students spend long periods of time trotting and cantering they should look into buying half chaps.
Sports Bras-It is recommend that females wear a sports bra designed for high impact sports while riding.

Lesson Policies and Procedures
Preparing and Arriving for Your Lesson
Scheduling and Payment: To reserve your lesson time, you must prepay for your lesson. For one-time lessons, payment is due when booking. To reserve a weekly spot, lessons are scheduled and prepaid monthly. Payment is due on the 25th, unless stated otherwise on the invoice. Invoices that are not paid by due date will incur a 10% late fee. If payment has not been received by the 1st of the month, the spot may be offered to another student. Checks for lessons are to be made out to Joyful Noise Riding Academy. For bounced checks, student will be charged $35 plus the original amount of check. Cash is accepted. Credit cards are accepted in person or by an invoice through email. Students who are committed to weekly lessons receive scheduling priority. Please note that all sales are final.
Arriving for Your Lesson: Your scheduled time is the time when the student is to arrive to get ready for their lesson. Please wait in parking area or office until the instructor meets you for the lesson. Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes early without making special arrangements. If students arrive later than their scheduled time, be aware that the lesson will still end at the original scheduled time. Please be respectful of the instructor's time and ensure students are picked up at the scheduled end time.
Parking: Park only behind or in front of the office. Please do not drive thru the yard. Please no loud music or other distractions.
Respect for the Property: Please note that Jennifer does not own or live on the property. The owners are very kind to let Joyful Noise Riding Academy operate here. To show our appreciation, please be extra respectful of their space and privacy. Please stay away from their home and outdoor living spaces. No one is allowed on the property unless scheduled to be there, and is with the instructor. Do not go to other parts of the property unless escorted.
Respect for the Horses: Horses are fun to be around, but remember, they are still animals that can be unpredictable at times. Horses are prey animals that can be startled by strange sounds and sudden movements. For your safety, no one is to enter the fenced-in horse areas, feed the horses, or touch the horses without the permission and supervision from the instructor. Please ensure no loud noises (such as yelling or screaming), running, or any other behaviors that could startle the horses and cause an injury.
Guests: Anyone accompanying the student must follow the barn rules and stay outside of fenced in horse areas. Anyone inside of the fenced in area must have a release form on file and have on closed toed shoes. If planning to bring a guest that may be interested in meeting and being close to the horses, please contact Jennifer in advance. Pony rides for guests are not offered. Anyone under 18 must be supervised by a parent or guardian. During the riding lesson, guests are asked to watch quietly and not distract the rider or instructor. Guests are welcome to hang out in the office.
Smoking: No smoking or vaping allowed in office, tack room, or near horse areas. Please do not throw cigarette butts on the ground.
During the lesson
Dressed To Ride: For your safety, students are required to wear long pants, boots, and a helmet to ride a horse. Students are required to purchase their own helmet and boots after their first month of lessons. Students that do not come dressed properly, will have an unmounted lesson.
Respect for the Equipment: Students are to respect and use all equipment as instructed. Tack should never be placed on the ground. Students are to carry, hang, and put all equipment up properly. Helmets are to be handled carefully and not allowed to hit the ground. Horse gear is expensive and should be treated as such.
Student Behavior: Students are expected to try their best in their lessons and have a good attitude. Students are to always be kind and encouraging to other students.
Horse Preparation: After a couple months of lessons, students should be able to groom and tack up on their own. Students that are trained are responsible for getting the horse ready for the lesson with minimal support from instructor. Mini-mites are to cheerfully work with the instructor to prepare the horse.
What If:
Rescheduling: A minimum of 24-hour notice is required to reschedule a lesson. Less than 24-hour notice will be charged as a full lesson fee. For a lesson that needs to be rescheduled, the instructor will offer at least two options for a make-up lesson. If student declines the make-up lesson options, then they forfeit that lesson. Lessons will not be credited to upcoming month’s tuition.
Weather: If it is raining, lightning, hailing, extremely windy, snowing, extremely hot or cold, we will reschedule. The instructor will decide if the conditions are bad enough and will contact you to inform you that the lesson will need to be rescheduled.
These rules are both to ensure the safety of everyone (and every animal) on the property and ensure the student has an enjoyable lesson. Failure to follow these rules, policies, or any requests from the instructor will lead to dismissal from the program. Students or their parents are responsible to pay for any damages to the property or equipment caused by them.
